2. Data processed when you visit the website
Server log files
When you open a page, your browser automatically sends information to the server that hosts this website: your IP address, the date and time of the request, the page requested, the referring page, and your browser and operating system. This is technically necessary to deliver the website and to keep it secure. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a stable, secure website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The website is hosted by SiteGround, which processes this data on our behalf. Log files are kept only as long as needed for security and troubleshooting and are then deleted in line with SiteGround’s retention rules.
Website statistics (Clicky)
We use Clicky, a web analytics service provided by a company based in the United States, to understand how visitors use this website, for example which pages are read and how visitors arrive. Clicky processes your IP address, the pages you visit, the referring website, and your browser and device type. Clicky is configured to work without cookies, so nothing is stored on your device. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in improving the website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Because Clicky is based in the USA, data may be transferred to the United States. Where required, such transfers are based on Standard Contractual Clauses.
Cookies
This website itself does not use advertising or tracking cookies. Cookies are only set for administrators who log in to manage the website.
3. Affiliate links
Some links on this website are affiliate links, marked by a note at the top of the page. If you click such a link and later buy something, we may receive a small commission. This does not change the price you pay.
Etsy (via Awin): links to Etsy run through the affiliate network Awin. When you click one, you leave our website. Awin and Etsy may set cookies on your device to attribute a purchase to our link. This happens on their websites and under their privacy policies.
We do not receive your name, contact details or payment information from these partners. We only see aggregated reports, such as the number of clicks and commissions.
4. Contacting us by email
If you email us, we process your email address and the content of your message to answer your enquiry. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We delete your message once it has been dealt with, unless we are legally required to keep it.
5. Your rights
Under data protection law you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- have incorrect data corrected;
- have your data deleted or its processing restricted;
- object to processing based on our legitimate interests;
- receive your data in a portable format;
- withdraw any consent you have given, with effect for the future.
To exercise these rights, email hello@digitalfauna.net. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, for example in the country where you live. In Uruguay, where we are based, this is the Unidad Reguladora y de Control de Datos Personales (URCDP). In the United Kingdom, it is the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
Visitors from the United States: we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising.
6. Children
This website is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the website or the law changes. The current version is always available on this page, with the date of the last update at the top.
